Thursday – the kids and I were bored, so we went to Monkey Joe’s. Its an inflatable bounce house place. The kids really love bounce houses, and I don’t know how many places we are going to find in our travels, so we went and had some fun. The trouble is, we went in the morning, which is when we usually do school. It didn’t work at all to switch and do school in the afternoon.
Friday – We had to get up early and pack up the RV. The roof stopped leaking since we quit getting rain all day, but with another storm headed this way, we thought it would be a good idea to get it looked at by a professional. When Sean started to put the TV antennae down, (a crank handle on the roof) it came off in his hand, and dumped water on his head. How handy that it happened on the way to the repair shop. I drove the RV for the first time, the whole quarter of a mile to Camping World! I’m not sure that really counts though. Anyway, the tech took one look at the roof and said we really needed to do some maintenance. He showed us cracks in most of the joint seals. So we got the whole thing redone and sealed with some stuff. Then we had to go hang out at our neighbor’s house in the old neighborhood for pretty much the whole day.
We are trapped in tourist hell here. Our current RV resort is on 192, which is a huge tourist area, hence the giant orange building, and the giant wizard gift shop. There are many, many gaudy buildings all around us. But the worst part is the idiot drivers. I don’t know if they all drive this way at home, or if they just become stupid when they get here, but I’m amazed there aren’t more car accidents every day. This is one of the things I’m really looking forward to getting away from.
We’ve had several more RV’s show up today, I suppose for the holiday weekend. There are several more dogs too, though we haven’t actually met any on our walks. What bugs me is there is a lot more dog poop, many people with little dogs don’t bother to pick up after themselves, which makes all of us look bad.
Saturday – Catastrophe for today – no water all day. Apparently there was a leaking pipe underground, and when the repairmen started to fix it, it just broke and the whole park lost water. It was another hot, muggy day, and now no showers, no water to flush toilets, it was a nightmare.
Sunday – This day was much better. I went out to lunch with 2 of our old neighbors and enjoyed some adult conversation for several hours. After I got back, the weather was cloudy and not oppressively humid for once. For the first time, we were able to let the kids ride their bikes for awhile, Sean grilled out, and we ate outside. Sophie was very happy to spend more than a few minutes outside.
Monday – we’ll be moving out to Fort Wilderness today, for a last hoorah with the rat.
