Thanksgiving in Tallahassee

I know some people think we are terrible for leaving Orlando 2 days before Thanksgiving, and not staying to be with my Mom.  I think these people need to realize that doing things differently than they do is not wrong, we do what works for us.  My mom didn’t mind at all that we left.  We got to spend lots of time together while we were there.

We had a really nice holiday.  We lazed around all morning, then drove around downtown to see what it looked like.  It was actually a perfect day to do that.  We were able to take tons of pictures with no other people in the way.  The old capitol building was pretty cool to look at, the new building was an ugly monstrosity.  I wonder if it was built in the dark days of the ’70’s.  Seems like everything was hideous back then, cars, clothes, appliances, home furnishings, etc.  There was a nice fountain and dolphin sculpture in front that we had great fun playing around.  Then we went back and Sean made a delicious dinner.

The next day we were still feeling lazy, and decided to stay a couple more days and get some school work done.  It was rainy and yucky outside so we really didn’t feel like moving.  Plus, we were planning to go check out the beach since its supposed to be really pretty up here, but we wanted to wait out the rain.  Thanks to stupid college football, we had to get out asap instead.  In the cold, cold rain.  Our campground was full the rest of the weekend, had been booked solid for months for the Florida/Florida State game.  I hate football.

Maybe some day architecture, like so many things, will come full circle and be interesting and pleasant to look at again. Hopefully the craftsmanship won’t have been completely lost by that time.

Even though I am an avid pro-football fan, I have no use for college football, especially in Tallahassee. When we were getting ready to move there, I had to plan my house-hunting trips around FSU football weekends…there were no hotel rooms available on game days! Ugghh!
