Yesterday morning we saw the snow plow guy on our road, so Sean went out and asked if he would pull our truck out. He got it out in 2 seconds. Then Sean followed him while he plowed the road out the rest of the way to the highway. There was a hill near the end that our truck couldn’t make, couldn’t get going fast at all since he was behind the plow, so it got towed again for the last several feet. The lady who owns the house and I were following, so Sean drove the truck back up to the visitor’s center parking lot, which is right by the highway, and we got a ride back to our house. It continued to snow all day Sunday.
Now its Monday, and it has stopped snowing, but the road reports are saying the highways are packed snow and icy. Crews are working to plow and sand them. But the guy who plows the neighborhood road isn’t here right now, and its doubtful we would be able to get out to the highway in our landlady’s car. She has offered to let us stay another night at no charge, so that’s what we’re going to do. I don’t think she wants to mess with getting us out any more than we do. She says this is not normal weather, they don’t usually get this much snow at a time, but Taos is coming out of a 30 year drought, so there is wetter snow, and more of it.
I just went out to brush off the solar panels one last time, they were totally covered. I disturbed the poor jackrabbit who had spent the night on our roof. He had a cozy little spot near the chimney. Oh, its 16 degrees outside right now, but still 59 inside the house, with no heat on yet. We just fired up the woodstove though, and I can feel it heating up the room already.
