On Tuesday morning, our hero – Ted the Snowplow Guy, got the neighborhood roads plowed, so we were able to drive to where our truck was. Now the big question was whether or not it would start. Apparently diesel engines are known for not liking cold weather. And its true, our battery was deader than a doornail. It needs to be started every day in this cold weather, but we couldn’t get to it to do that. So AAA did come in handy in the end. We tried to jump start it from our landlady’s car, but it was too wimpy. AAA had a big diesel truck too, so we jumped it off of theirs, and they had an extra booster thingydoo to hook up to our second battery, and jump that one too. That did the trick, so we were off on our merry way. By this time all the roads were in pretty good shape, we didn’t run into any ice along the way. Since we were stuck at the house nearly the whole time, we didn’t see much of Taos. What we saw on the way up seemed just like Santa Fe to me. Lots of expensive artsy stuff.
Susann – an Earthship is a passive solar house, totally off the grid, no city sewer, very energy efficient house. Made from old tires, built mostly underground. Its not dark though since one whole side is windows floor to ceiling. Here’s more info – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earthship
We’re starting to think about getting on the road again. We’re waiting for another batch of mail to be forwarded, so we’ll likely leave Saturday or Monday.
